How long have you been teaching yoga and where do you teach?

I have been teaching yoga for over 10 years – I have 6 weekly classes at Triyoga (Soho, Primrose Hill and Covent Garden), my own local class in Finchley which has grown from 4 people in my dining room to 25 regulars at The Arts Depot, N12 on Mondays, as well as private and corporate clients all over town.

Where do you draw your inspiration from?

My students are my daily inspiration, I love other triyoga teachers such as Naomi Reynolds, Mercedes Ngoh, Aki Omori; online classes at Yogaglo; the senior teachers I am blessed to know who share their decades of wisdom – such as Clive Sheridan (a favourite of many teachers) Patsy Sparksman (Iyengar queen!) and for meditation, devotional chanting, delicious veggie lunch in a spiritual oasis in the countryside just outside north London you can’t beat Bhaktivedanta Monor. The monks generously open their doors and hearts to visitors 365 days a year .

What style of yoga do you teach?

The official title I guess would be vinyasa flow. But I do include moments of yin or restorative; there is always some pranayama and meditation, and though I link poses and sequences I do like to slow down and hold the postures. I tend to usually have open level classes which will have more challenging and more gentle versions of postures to pace it to everyone’s needs

What do you like about teaching on yoga retreats?

I love to work with students away from work and family demands. It’s when we make progress in our practice, so it is a privilege (and a luxury!) to have a week to work progressively with the same class. The energy is always wonderful – we arrive usually knowing one or perhaps no other person, but leave as old friends, quite often with new friends for life. As the week begins people are a bit tired or over worked and as the yoga, good food, sun, great company with like minded souls and lots of sleep starts to weave it’s magic, everyone starts to radiate a brightness that is a joy to be around!

Where do you like to go on holiday?

For Europe I love Spain and Italy, further afield India and Australia, but I have a huge passion for the UK countryside too – the Lake district, Scottish Highlands and my favourite spot in the UK – the Isle of Wight.
